Dante is incredibly flippant, casually mouthing off to even the most powerful of demons, and he generally enjoys showing off and taunting his adversaries as often as he can. Dante also displays a fearless, almost disinterested attitude towards incredibly dangerous situations. While he has matured over the years he has never lost his care-free, devil-may-care attitude. Although, he can be serious when the situation calls for it, but still maintains an overall laid-back demeanor during tense situations, and is never without a witty taunt or comeback. Although seemingly shown at times to be uncaring or callous, Dante maintains a very strong sense of justice like his father, and prefers to fight fairly, never fighting humans or opponents weaker than him. He can be counted on to do the right thing, even if he makes humorously cynical quips about it the entire time. Unusually, while he has displayed discomfort with his own demonic side, as he would often look at himself and see if he could call himself human, going so far as to rip his chest open to see his own heart to confirm that he even had one. He only came to terms with his true nature upon battling his twin brother Vergil who wished to rule over mankind after having defeated the demon king Mundus who ruled over them, stating that “humans were frail and helpless creatures” and that they should rule over them instead. Upon defeating his brother he placed the world under his protection but in his brother’s eyes he chose the wrong side, stating that he would never be human leaving Dante unsure of who or what he was, he was reassured by Kat that he is nothing more or less. He has little qualms about accepting demons that choose the side of good and admires their desire to be human, the most noteable being Trish, his ex girlfriend Ravyn and her friend Eden who are both succubi. Though Dante is quoted as believing that "Humans are often worse than demons." He refuses to kill full-blooded humans for any reason, believing it would make him no better than any Devil, be it human or demon. In addition, Dante values family and friends very highly. He cared deeply for his mother and, despite their differences, intense duels, and conflicting ideals, for his brother. While he says little about his father, Sparda, Dante has shown to clearly maintain a level of respect for him. Dante also enjoys fighting, shown when he restrains himself from using his full potential. Dante gets bored with fighting weak opponents and only finds entertainment in fighting strong opponents who will give him a challenge. Also, despite Dante's handsome appearance, he often has terrible luck with women, a condition he now believes to be true after being hurt repeatedly by the women he gave his heart to only to see it crushed each time causing him to now seek out flings instead of attempting to get into monogamous relationships as he no longer wants to go through that pain again.
