[RP Advice] Recolors Are NOT OC (Designing OCs)
Category: Blogging

Seeing some recolored characters on AniRoleplay reminded me of this topic. I see it all too often actually. Something needs to be said.

We all know how hard it is to make an Original Character, but part of that design should NOT include recoloring a canon character. I should know, I used to do this myself until I got better at drawing my OCs. Recoloring is a good start for editors and OC makers, but it cannot be THE solution. Upon designing, instead of recoloring, just use the face of another character that resembles your idea of your OC.

With practice, you CAN eventually come to the results of making your own face.

I highly encourage you pace yourself though. I myself have messed up countless times when I was making my OC’s face. I did recolors in the beginning, transitioned into editing, before honing my abilities and improving myself so I could put my own face to her. If you truly wish to put a face to your OCs, practice. You need the patience to do so, you cannot just give up because it didn’t turn out the way you wanted it, it is part of learning how to do it.

Recoloring doesn’t paint the face of your OC, it simply changes the face of an already existing character.
