Lessons learned

The culling of Dromund Kaas

Dredgan sat comfortably on the patio of the sith intelligence building. The rain was falling in sheets as it always did on this planet and the emperor was currently drenched. He watched as his forces lead by his son marched on Vitiates citadel. The last step to yet another planet wide conquest. If he was being truthful he loved the rain it provided him with a sense of calm when nothing else would. He closed his eyes and blocked out the screams the gunfire and listened only to the rain. A smile almost made its way to his face when he was interrupted by his son.

"Father wouldn't you prefer to sit inside?"

"No this is fine thank you."

The young man sat quietly, anxiously even as if he was waiting for the right moment to ask an important question. Dredgan noticed and said.

"Speak, its obvious something plagues you."

The young man composed himself and spoke firm.

"Father what does Mortis mean to you ?"

To this Dredgan raised an eyebrow he turned to face his eldest and began.

"Where have you heard that name? I've never spoken it to you."

"In your sleep....whenever you become particularly restless you utter the word over and over again you seem..........scared. It's rather pathetic."

Dredgan chuckled

"Pathetic the boy says, Mortis is a place where dreams die and nightmares run rampant. It is a planet I'd advise you stay away from. Not even I dare arriving unannounced."

With his curiosity reaching new heights he kept on.

"Something that scares even you lives there? Who is it what's it's name if I can defeat it I can surely defeat you."

"My son you are mighty in every sense of the word but that place requires more then might. On that planet grows a garden, in that garden grows a tree of silver wings. The leaves are ruin, the bark disaster. Of its caretaker I dare not speak. For now it's best you focus on your own challenges. Inside the citadel lies Lord Vitiate. You can sense him from even here can't you? Your forces and his will battle no longer. This next fight will be a battle of kings and you will fight In my place."

"Of course father I will slay him like all the others."

"A brave front but Vitiate is no mere foe. In fact he will be one of if not the strongest being you'll come to fight. I know it and so you do you."

The boy went to say something but stuttered, in his place Dredgan began.

"Your afraid and that is perfectly fine to feel. It's a warning that you might not survive but it's also your strength. The fear of death will push you towards life and in this fight you will throw everything you have at him. Punch, kick even bite as long as it brings you victory. Fear will be your greatest weapon today."

The pair walked down and made their way inside the citadel. On his throne was the lord of this planet. He sat with a seemingly bored expression on his face but he didn't fool Dredgan. Dredgan could see what he was truly feeling and he needed to make sure his son understood. At that exact moment his eldest left his side and made his way toward Vitiate. Dredgan couldnt help but feel proud as he watched his eldest march forward with no hesitation his aura shined bright like a vast inverse sun.

Before the battle started Dredgan called out to his eldest.

"Remember what I taught you about fear"

"I know father it's my greatest strength Is there something else I should worry about ?"

Dredgan now gave his last warning this one would be sure to drive his point home.

"My son you're afraid, but listen carefully. So is he."

Twins

Look at you!

Already you are grown, my daughter, already you are a sorcerer. Have I been away so long Midha? Vaylin cackles and rages at your brilliance. You have recorded eleven holocrons on force walking and immortality. You have announced that you will hide these holocrons, and would kill the truth on how to achieve it. A wise decision to keep such techniques within the family.
Well done. I brought you this spirit for your celebrations.

And you Sol
are a wizard too, as is the way of twins. I have been with Arcann who complains that your ability in Force storms are decimating our enemies leaving his forces with little to no resistance. You know how much he enjoys a good battle.

I created you both by manipulating midiclorians and when I believed you to be a failure I attempted to do away with my project. I split you and just like that one became two. I assumed you would of wasted away but you survived and you grew beyond my wildest dreams into the beings you are today.

My darksaber is named Willbreaker.

but it never broke you.

Hope Eater

You are Veradun, my son. Welcome.

I fought my way out of hell to make you. I fought my traitor siblings and I fought the monserous abominations they sent. I scorched a path of destruction on my way back to my dreadnaught which had been usurped. Once there I made war on my sister Vaylin and tore apart her fragile psyche so that she could never again betray me, and then I had tricked Arcann, and decimated his rebellion so that he could never again try to take what belonged to me. Lastly I had arranged my own lineages so that my throne would be inherited by the truly worthy.

One of those spawns was you.

Your life will be a battle too. You will have to win your place under my command. I will give you nothing... except this, your first blade and this name I have prepared for you.

We fight a war against false hope, Veradun, We chase a being called Abeloth, a huckster aberration who baits young life into building armies for it. These armies are unsafe, for they cannot stand against my Legion. And these armies are a trap for they know only how to take orders. They only know what's given they know nothing of the blade and the tooth, which are the tools of survival and the means of ascension.

Only when Abeloth is extinguished will the universe be free to arrange itself, and assume, by ruthless contest, its final perfect shape, a shape which depends on nothing but itself.

Thus I name you Veradun, Eater of Hope.

Let's go meet your aunts and uncles.

10/17/2017 09:37 PM

Full circle.

Mortis was cold and barren surrounded by a starless darkness unlike anyplace else in the galaxy. There was no sound except for the howling wind. Nothing lived on Mortis how could it the planet was soaked in malice it was darkness incarnate. And at its center laid Abeloth, the beloved queen of stars who was denying a truth until it became a lie.

Inside her temple in her presence Dredgan fell to one knee and greeted her.

"My Queen."

"My champion. What brings you to me, I sense you are troubled. If I look deeper I sense frustration, defiance, confusion.....and confidence."

"I've come to put an end to your vision on this galaxy. To challenge my existence against yours. To take your claim on the universe and shape it in my vision."

Abeloth's aura became hostile and she bared her many fanged teeth at him.

"Take from Me? Me! My vision is the only vision little Emperor. What I do is for the good of the universe I'm forcing it into submission to allow it to reveal its true shape. A place built on ruthlessness. A place that test all inhabitants to achieve their perfect form."

Dredgan quickly responded

"That vision.......is lonely isn't it. Ultimately the one true perfect being that resides above all will be the only one left."

"Loneliness? That is your fear? You are swayed Dredgan you are broken. You have let your humanity corrupt you and make you weak. I had such high hopes for you but in the end it seems man will be man and god will be god."

"God? You are no god you are an aberration a twisted perversion of the force. My vision seeks order not extinction. My vision sees a singular rule with the only law being strength. Instead of building perfection It will breed many that come close. Our visions for the universe itself is essentially the same however the outcome that we seek afterwards differs. For my ideas, for my goals sake you must perish.

The flames that lit her temple were the only protection from the darkness that consumed this starless part of the galaxy. They flickered and danced as the conversation escalated and the tension grew.

"You've grown arrogant Emperor, you have forgotten that I was the one who bestowed you your gifts, that you were MY instrument in MY quest for perfection. You've come with the audacity to question my role in the universe. I can smell your fear you are afraid little Emperor."

"You are correct my queen all that I am was given to me and that is not our way is it? I shall take the rest and redefine your vision. You've shown me your path but now I make my own."

Abeloth faltered for a moment before saying

"You have not the strength."

But this was the lie. Dredgan had killed many on her path in her name. His experience and strength had been honed through countless battles. In raw strength Abeloth surpassed him and yet he now felt at ease. As she had mentioned long ago she was majestic and majestic was the only thing that could be true and in sure of itself. It was that arrogance that would be her downfall. She had lived for thousands of years with her power and with the mindset that she was untouchable and for a time she was. However her time was over and her lack of experience would be her demise.

She roared

"Dredgan I can no longer permit you to exist."

Dredgan stood and dropped his cape, the young emperor rolled his shoulders and cracked his neck. The time for talk was over. Dredgan raised his arms up and the intensity of the flames rose with him. The room lit up like never before. The sight intimidated the queen of stars and with a ear shattering scream she lunged forward, before the two made contact however Dredgan quickly lowered his hands and all the flames went out. Darkness washed over them both.

For the first since her life began the beloved queen of stars felt an unfamiliar shiver in her spine. Was this fear? She lashed wildly at the darkness as she could not see nor sense Dredgan. She waited for what seemed like hours for anything to happen her own fears and anticipation eating her from the inside out.

"WHERE ARE YOU!"

Finally Dredgan responded

"You seem distressed, erratic, scared."

His voice came from all directions and echoed all over the room. She couldn't pin point him. What came next was a wave of force energy from above flattening her against the ground. She instantly retaliated in that direction but nothing hit. The next strike came from her right blew her hard and she was slammed into the wall near that end of the throne room. Her body embedding itself in the wall before she pulled herself out. Her breathing was heavy and she was growing frantic. She took a step away from the wall but a frontal blast blew her right back. This time she was prepared to counter. She raised her hand in the direction the blast came from but before she could send anything off she was struck again from the right. And then again from the left. She was losing it now. Fear had completely overtaken her. Was this to be the end of her long life? She was beaten over and over again. By barrage after barrage of force blast.

He spoke again and like before his voice came from all directions.

"I'm disappointed really. Please understand that I take no joy in this. I had come to kill a monster and in its place I discover a child."

By now Abeloth had balled up on the ground her mind enveloped in fear as he spoke. Each word echoing and driving her to madness. Until finally his next sentence sounded as if he was right next to her. She could almost feel his lips against her ear. She froze.

Dredgan spoke.

"My queen.......Eternity is close, can you feel yourself slipping."

It was the last sentence he spoke to her. Abeloth sat and sobbed pleading for a quick death.

Dredgan recounted the events as his ship entered hyperspace. He had departed the planet hours ago. His original plan was to kill her but that would of been to good for her. Dredgan wasn't one to hold grudges but they shared a long past. He wanted her to suffer. As this was her first time experiencing fear. He imagined she would be in that pitiful state awaiting death by his hand completely unaware that he had departed. She would sit alone in the darkness waiting for a release that would never come. Hopefully for eternity.

Confrontation pt2 extended memory

"I agree on that Meetra which is why this will be my last act completely of my own free will. If killing you spares you from what lies ahead then kill you I must. It is not possible to walk away from such things unscarred...To keep living while the universe around you dies...... She will try to break you, teach you how far you can fall. You are her weakness, as you were mine."

Meetra said nothing and for a long time the two stared at each other with solemn eyes until finally she took the first step. Dredgan was visibly shaking at this point, he had taken countless lives but had only ever come to care for one. She was his friend. It was a simple word a simple title but it made all the difference. His resolve wavered with her every step and Dredgan's knees felt weak. He tried to persuade her one final time with words.

"Meetra......please turn back."

With a soft smile she simply replied.

"I can't"

Dredgan was torn but his decision had been made. He took one powerful step forward and swung his blade horizontally aiming directly for her throat. It would be quick, painless his one and only mercy to date. He closed his eyes and whispered

"I'm sorry"

Time seemed to slow and though his eyes were closed the blade was mere inches from her. In the next moment she would be gone. That was until she spoke.

"Stop"

His body seized and Dredgan opened his eyes to see the blade halt just inches from her skin. It's heat leaving a small burn. What was this? With just a word she shattered his will, his resolve. He became frantic

"No,no,no! You mustn't you must allow me to do this!"

Dredgan regained control of his body and he pulled back readying himself for another strike. He lunged at her again and this time the air around him crackled with electricity he was exerting himself to ensure she could not stop him again. As he was now nothing short of Abeloth herself would be able to stop him. It was over.

"Kneel"

The young lord had fallen to his knees his saber rolled from his fingertips. He looked up at her in disbelief had she always been this powerful? Had she been limiting herself this whole time to prevent her ability from affecting him. He was speechless. Meetra came to one knee and placed a hand on his cheek whispering a goodbye before standing again and walking right past him. She pushed the doors open and stepped into darkness. In her last moments she seemed as wholly luminescent as the sun, and Dredgan wished he could be so brave.

Confrontation

Dredgan stood facing his final obstacle before confronting Abeloth herself in her chambers on Mortis. One large stone temple door stood in front of him and on the other side he could sense her malicious presence. He pressed a hand against the door attempting to open it but was stopped by a distant memory. Another link in his chain of regret.

Mortis Centuries ago.

"Stand aside Dredgan."

"I cannot...."

"You would defend her even now? She's using me, using you! You're gifted Dredgan you truly are. Even before her mentorship. You need to look past her deceit and end the chaos that she brings to this galaxy. You've seen the horrors she's unleashed. The destruction of Taris, the Mandolorian wars. She's orchestrated events that's ended billions of lives."

"Not her, me."

"You?"

"Immortality is one of the curses I attained before meeting her. I've been alive for so very long Meetra. This corruption runs deep and I no longer have the strength to resist. In truth the last of my sanity should of been purged years ago and yet right when I was about to tip over the edge you came along and anchored me. Your presence in the force is unique. It compels those in the vicinity to bind to your will. It makes weaker folk lay down their lives for you and those of a stronger breed to befriend you. I was well aware of your strength and steeled my self against it. Your ability had no effect on me and yet I was still swayed. Even under Abeloth's influence your inherently good nature could not be suppressed. Where I showed anger you showed compassion, while I killed needlessly in someone else's name you showed mercy. Slowly but surely I felt regret for all my wrong doings. Even now as you stand before me completely free of that monsters influence I so desperately want to join you. But I can't. She knows how dangerous your influence on me can be. She's afraid of you and so she tries tirelessly to bind me completely."

"I had no idea Dredgan let me help you and together we can atone for those sins. I have it in me to forgive but it starts with you. Please."

Dredgan had a solemn look on his face when he spoke next.

"To be in her presence is to stand against death  and decay. You will certainly die."

"I'd rather die free then live shackled A man chooses Dredgan, a slave obeys."

"I agree on that Meetra which is why this will be my last act completely of my own free will. If killing you spares you from what lies ahead then kill you I must. It is not possible to walk away from such thing unscarred...To keep living while the universe around you dies...... She will try to break you, teach you how far you can fall. You are her weakness, as you were mine."

Snapping back to reality Dredgan let out a sigh. This was not the time to reminisce but Dredgan could see so clearly now the haze over his mind  had finally been lifted. There were so many things he wished he could change. He shook his head and steeled himself for what was to come this would be the last step to his thousand year journey before wiping it all clean and trying again. Pushing open the stone door a he could feel the malevolent energy inside wash over him. Her pressure was incredible it was as if there was an ocean above the sky pressing down on him. He took a step in and the doors closed behind him.

Turning point

During the battle for Sebaddon in a cavern deep below the planet. The young emperor encounters.......

"A chamber? All the way down here?

The current Mandolore, Shae Vizla said as she fumbled around with the controls outside the underground chamber. Her efforts seemed useless until she found.

"A retina scanner? Haven't seen one of this make since i was a girl back on Jelucan, and even then that planet ran on backwater tech. Whatever this chamber is it's been down here for awhile. I don't got the tools to pick this kind of thing so it looks like we're going to have to find another way in."

Scan complete

Name: Dredgan Yor.
Age: 14
Sex: Female.

Dredgan raised an eyebrow at that last part. Although before he got a chance to say anything on it Vizla cut in.

"Female? 14? You're telling me this whole time you've been a women a 14 year old women?!"

Dredgan sighed and began.

"No I assure you I am a man and I am not 14. This scanner relies on preset information to work. Meaning after the scan of the eyes had occurred someone had to input the information for it."

The doors internal locks shifted and turned before finally splitting itself apart to offer passage.

"Makes sense but a 14 year old girl? Even if the name and the eye pattern was correct the age and gender are all wrong. Someone had to have made a mistake."

"It could of been a mistake or it could of been imputed correct. Regardless Shae I'd like less questions and more scouting I know as little about this as you do. I only know it's been calling to me for quite a while now."

The Mandalorian scoffed and the young emperor and pressed forward down the maze of dimly lit corridors. As Dredgan and Shae continued down the dark path they ran into the occasional cleaner droids still doing their duty. As they got deeper they noticed the droids were increasing In number. Soon they encountered droids and the adaptable combat hexes his forces had been battling on the planets surface. While normally they were extremely hostile down here they seemed passive almost as if they couldn't even see the pair that walked through their line of sight. Eventually the two ran into a massive door with no visible scanners.

"Ahh this one is a tad more recent then the last."

Shae explained

"This one needs one drop of blood to verify the user. I'm guessing if you passed the retina scanner you'd be able to pass this one."

It seemed logical to Dredgan that this door would be no different then the last however upon pricking his finger on the apparatus provided. The lights in the ship shut off entirely, leaving them in utter darkness. The ships interface began to speak.

Users blood matches samples provided inner sanctum opening........

Inner sanctum door override.....

User blood has been determined to be force sensitive. Initiate override.... lock inner sanctum doors activate hexes.

The silence that engulfed the chamber began to vanish. It was replaced by the creaks and noises of hexes preparing for battle Dredgan turned and noticed their had been so many all around them. Just a moment ago they weren't here did they come from somewhere hidden or had all the ones they had passed followed them. Shae placed her hand on her blaster and unsheathed the vibroblade on here armor from her wrist before speaking.

"Looks bad but the hexes still have the same stupid look on there face. I'm pretty sure they're still passive."

As if programmed to activate on sound every hex in the vicinity turned there heads sharply to face the pair and then all at once they screamed.

"WE DO NOT RECOGNIZE YOUR AUTHORITY!"

At that moment Dredgan activated his twin red sabers and the mass of hexes pounced on them. Dredgan took point in front of Shae. Taking the brunt of the forces while she focused on figuring out how to open the door. After several failed attempts she turned giving up and began shooting at the mass of hexes Dredgan was currently holding off.

The young emperor let loose his fourth storm of electricity on the hexes and this time a few of them came together to contain the energy and fire it back at him. Dredgan reacted quickly and raised his right hand using the force ability known as Tutaminis to disperse the energy. Lightning would be of no use now. Sighing Dredgan switched to an acrobatic dual saber style to ensure he took down as many as he could while conserving as much strength as possible. Together him and Shae were turning the hexes into a scrap pile. That was until Dredgan went to swipe the hex closest to him in half. In an instant it put up an electromagnetic barrier and his saber was bent backwards towards him. Dredgan quickly deactivated the weapon and lept back next to Shae. Raising both palms out and closing his eyes the young emperor emitted a powerful barrier. Anything that got within 10 feet of them was violently repulsed backwards. With them finally having some breather room Shae removed her helmet and sat down. Her long red hair fell to her sides she was human much like the young emperor but she wasn't force sensitive. Instead she relied on skill and alittle bit of luck.

"Looks like we're in a jam. While I'm sure you can hold the barrier for as long as you'd like, the thought of being stuck down here forever is a way of dying completely unlike a mandolorian."

"You're welcome to take your chances out there."

"Give it a bit once I get real bored I just might."

Just then a voice rang out in both their heads.

"No no neither of you will be dying down here."

The very same voice then echoed over the ships comms.

"All hexes in the immediate vicinity stand down."

With that simple command the hexes exited battle mode and stood in place idly as they had when the pair first entered the ship. At the same time the inner sanctum door opened revealing a single massive glass tube with a blood like liquid inside it. Dredgan and Shae made their way inside the sanctum until Dredgan came face to face with the tube.

"This presence....this feeling.....is it you? Mother?"

The liquid inside the tube swirled violently and then a palm pressed against the glass from inside the tube before a face appeared with it.

"Mother? In here? Well yes and no."

Dredgan for the first time in awhile showed a look of shock. Their was a person inside the tube black hair and dark green eyes she was a splitting image of himself abit much younger and undeniably female.

"You......your me."

Dredgan barely managed to get the words out as he spoke. Soon his other replied.

"Were so similar are we brother and sister?"

The girl on the inside of the tube smiled warmly at him. Dredgan couldn't help but notice she was entirely without sin. The way she smiled the curious look on her face. Is this what he could have become before Abeloth took it all away? Before she showed him the path to the perfect shape? He couldn't even remember the last time he smiled. He was lost in his thoughts until his twin snapped him out of it.

"Brother what's it like out there? I mean I've learned about stars and such from mommy, the planets the galaxy but I've never actually seen it could you explain it abit more in detail?"

Dredgan was at a loss for words he was going to reply before being cut by a third voice.

"Ignore him! Ignore him! Command the hexes to destroy him you are my only child now!"

Dredgan stiffened that was his mother echoing in his head but how? Where?

"Shes right here in the chamber with me silly. I don't how exactly and she never really wanted to explain it but she's the liquid that's around me."

"Shut up shut up shut up. Don't tell him if he finds out Abeloth will find us!"

Dredgan struggled to tell her he would never turn on her.

"No mother I would never. I came all this way to see you again I had no idea you were still alive! Abeloth said you had perished."

Shae couldn't help but watch the sight speechless. Never in her life had she witnessed Dredgan so out of character. Usually the boy was so well spoken and composed. She didn't think this side of him was possible. His aura of dominance and strength had all but vanished. He was breaking down in front of her.

"You are no son of mine I've since rid myself of my mistake I've seen what you've done to the galaxy the path Abeloth has given you is one of ruin my son is dead. I have only my daughter now."

The words stuck him deep. Had Abeloth truly brainwashed him to such an extent. Had her perfect shape truly been the way the universe worked?

"Mother that seems cruel he is of our flesh and blood were his family!"

Switching the subject the young girl asked Dredgan more questions about the galaxy. From what Dredgan could tell she was so sheltered she was unaware of his atrocities she was ignorant to all the bad the galaxy held. But at the same time she had yet to truly witness its beauty. The frost chilled planet of ilum and its wondrous crystal ice sculptures that dotted the land. Or the Coruscant and its marvelous towers of glittering golds and silvers. She had been trapped here for 14 years alone with nothing and no one but mother. Dredgan pressed his hands up to the glass and began to explain the beauty of Naboo with all its green and the endless rain storms of Drommond Kass that left the city and its residences in an endless calm.

Just then their mother cut in.

"I can sense it! You wish to leave me here forever! To join that monster in his atrocities! I won't allow another monster of mine to roam free. I created you once and I will do it again I only have to wipe the previous model out entirely!"

The tube swirled and swirled and the child Dredgan was pulled from the glass inside the tube. She spoke to the young emperor in his head. Their mother was killing her inside that tube and their was nothing he could do while she begged her to stop. The glass was tempered immune to blaster fire and lightsaber heat it was unlike anything he had ever come across. In that moment a vibro blade pierced the glass and it splintered sending cracks all throughout the tube before the whole thing came apart. Shae had pierced the glass with her blade, her older model weapon was exactly what they needed. In his mind his mothers voice rang out in screams as the liquid spilled across the ground before finally going quiet. He could no longer sense her presence and this time he was sure she was gone for good. He was visibly saddened his actions had directly caused her to lose her mind and ultimately costed her, her life. He had failed her entirely.

"Br-brother"

Dredgan's other half called out to him and he kneeled by her side she was emaciated and gasping for breath. She was not accustomed to breathing air and was slowly dying. Dredgan was frantic the events of the past few minutes had sent his mind on a downward spiral that had him questioning everything he believed in.

"Your dying.....If you go I'll truly have no one left in this galaxy."

Dredgan's voice was monotone but the hurt in his eyes was evident.

The younger female Dredgan raised a hand and placed it on his cheek.

"Silly.... it's a galaxy of possibilities you'll never be alone as long as you open yourself to those possibilities. Besides mother always told me that when you die you live on up there."

She pointed up and the ceiling

"Above the stars above the planets above everything else is where I'm going. Maybe there I'll get to explore some more. In 14 years I've never known anything but this room."

For the first time ever. Dredgan cried. He sobbed and wept like never before. She was so innocent so young so deserving of life. His younger half poked him in the arm and said.

"Hey brother before I start my next adventure do you think you could tell me more about this galaxy?"

Her voice was weak now she was fading fast. Dredgan pulled himself together and replied.

"I'll do better I'll show you."

Dredgan placed a hand on her head and performed with her a sort of memory meld he gave her every memory the good and the bad. He showed her ilum and naboo. He showed her the darkness of space and the light of the stars that dotted it. He showed her every moment he cherished and every atrocity he committed. Now his younger half cried and she said.

"It seems you've had it just as hard up there as I have had down here. You've been alone all this time while I at least had mother to keep me company."

Her hand fell from his cheek.

"It might be asking too much brother but I'd like you to live better. Live happier. Live knowing that even though this is our first and last meeting and even though I might never see you again live knowing you were loved so very much by mother and myself."

Dredgan began to weep again.

"For you sweet child anything."

Before she faded entirely Dredgan showed her a memory of the first time he had ever made it to space the joy he felt leaving his home planet and starting his life in the stars. She smiled and said.

"It's beautiful"

And then she was gone.

He sat cradling her body for awhile before Shae finally put a hand on his shoulder.

"Hey listen I'm sorry I didn't know she couldn't breathe out here had I known I wouldn't of done it."

Dredgan turned to face her.

"No she was going to die anyway. You allowed her to see the stars in her final moments and for that I'm forever grateful."

Dredgan gently set her body down on the ground and stood. She was gone entirely now. Her body was an empty shell while her spirit soared to new heights to begin a new adventure. Turning on his heel preparing to walk out and end the battle that raged on the surface Dredgan took one last look at the inner sanctum and departed. Half way to the surface Shae stopped him and asked.

"So what now. It's clear this has changed everything."

Dredgan thought for a long moment what was next.

"I'm done Shae. I'm done with all this violence with all the bloodshed I'm done with Abeloth. I know I'll never be forgiven and so I will use everything under my banner to rid the galaxy of Abeloth before leaving it entirely and staring anew."

"I see I guess I'll stick around until the very end then. Lead the way my lord."

And so with eyes looking forward to a brighter future Dredgan Yor reached the surface of the planet with new goals and a feeling that felt utterly foreign to him. That feeling was hope.

More than anyone else

"My life spans millennia. Legions have risen to test me as I them. My ascendance is inevitable. A day, a year, a millennium it matters not I will become perfection, the test for this galaxy will be complete. I hold the patience of stone and the will of stars. I will lead you all to perfection if that means the death of each and every single one of you so be it. Your striving is insignificant. Let your death be the same."

"If you kill everyone in the galaxy, you'll be Emperor of nothing. What's the point of all this?"

"You discern a fraction of reality. Beyond these stars exist other galaxies, other worlds, other beings other test I will experience or ignore them as I wish. To you I am a destroyer to others a savior. I will spend eternity becoming everything: a farmer, an artist, a simple man. Ultimately when the last living thing in the universe finally dies, I will enjoy peace and wait for the cycle to begin again."

"People like you have a fatal flaw an overwhelming emotion that drives them to self-destruction. For you, that emotion is fear."

"I fear nothing."

"Oh but you do, you aren't afraid of death you are afraid of life. You've lived for awhile so I suppose you have a different concept of time. Maybe you will succeed in finishing this galaxy. Maybe you'll succeed in the next. How many times will you succeed before your peace becomes madness. Before the apathy creeps in to your very soul and you lose the will to live all together."

"I-I've taken precautions."

"Have you? Don't you think every race every single being you've come across have taken precautions in case of your arrival be it kill run or otherwise. Tell me exactly how they have faired?  The problem with your vision is that there can only be one like you. With you're ability you have a chance of being that one. That apex being at the top of everything with nothing to show for it. It terrifies you."

"Silence!"

"It's why you created those things right? Your children? Slowly but surely the ideals you held on too for centuries are falling apart the very mantras you live by are the same ones that shake you to the core."

"Cease your speaking you know nothing! NOTHING! You think your words clever? You think you can sway me? Break me?"

Dredgan stood lightning crackling at his finger tips his voice boomed as he spoke again.

"Your words die tonight you will perish, your death will be one of trillions to come. What do you think of that?"

"What I think? Lord Dredgan.....I think....the one who wants death more then anyone else is the grim reaper himself."

What came next was a flash of lightning, the crackling of bones, the tearing of flesh and a brave mans last laugh.

Curosity.

A boy as young as ten stood among a decimated landscape he had completed the first step to a planet wide invasion.

"My lord, the young child asked after studying various books on religion in a torn down library.

"Does heaven exist?"

Dredgan turned to his first born and kneeled in front of him.

"I suppose in a sense Heaven does exist, Although in believing that it would be safe to believe that there is a hell as well."

"Who goes to heaven?"

"Whoever god wants up there."

"I'm afraid that's much too vague for me."

"You've always been a curious child."

"Can you elaborate on your answer from before? About heaven?"

"Of course. Depending on what you believe in Heaven is open to all of God's creations, whatever they do."

The child breathed a sigh of relief. Seemingly filled with regret for all he had done.

"Are you going to heaven too? Since you were created by God," He asked.

"In theory I suppose I could, but I won't," Dredgan replied.

"Why?"

"Because I committed the most egregious sin. I did something only God was supposed to do."

"What's that?"

"I tried to create angels. They didn't work out. My angels were made in my image, so I guess I'm to blame. All they do is cause suffering and destruction, so God decided they had to go to hell, to suffer for an eternity"

“I couldn't go to heaven, not while my creations were suffering. So I decided that when the time came, I would travel to hell and suffer with them."

"Why?"

"Because I love them."

"I have to go tell my sisters they will be so happy to hear."

"And what might that be?"

"That no matter what we do, we're going to heaven."

"But you're not, not you nor your sisters for that matter."

"But," the boy said, his voice wavering, "You said..."

"Yes, I know what I said my child. But you're not one of God's creations," Dredgan said with a stern tone to get his point across.

"You're one of mine."

More beautiful to know

Sometimes I wonder if I'm a nihilist.

I don't do much except break things. That's what they say about me: we could've had a great civilization, if it weren't for that damn Dredgan, that damn Legion. They don't believe in anything but death.

The only way to make something good is to make something that can't be broken. And the only way to do that is to try to break everything.

I'm glad I learned that the universe runs on death. It's more beautiful to know.

But I'm lost somewhere strange.

No one else is clever or strong enough to try to break me. No one else can give me this gift

How am I supposed to know if I am truly the best I can be.

Surely the galaxy will provide countless challenges but I need something truly wicked to challenge myself if all else fails.

I'm going to have children.

Sons and daughters to love, train, and possibly kill.

For if I do not try to break them as they will most assuredly try to break me what kind of father would I be?
