[how would they use their abilities?] Alice wouldn't really use her abilities to help or harm anyone but herself. Alice is also capable of danmaku. In Gensokyo everyone uses a system of spellcards which is a non lethal way of carrying out fights. Otherwise everyone in Gensokyo would have killed each other off by now since even everyday conversations tend to end in a throwdown. Alice's spellcards focus on magic spells she came up with her own and are often a combination of her own magic and the use of her dolls.

Alice is best described as a loner. She lives in the middle the forest of magic alone with hardly anyone around. She is extremely interested in Magical items, (such as magic books) and she also loves to create, control, and collect different dolls. Her house is crammed with these items, making it come off as being creepy. It's even said that the dolls of her house look extremely demented and unusual. This scares most visitors away, but this seems to be how Alice likes it.
She is also quite uncaring towards others. She is the type of girl who will let anyone stay the night in her house, but she will not be hospitable at all towards them. Alice would simply carry on her research, and opt out for carrying out a conversation. It's not that she likes or dislikes other people in particular, she simply feels indifferent towards them as a whole. Although she has been known to form friendships they have been strained at best. Her closest friend is her 'neighbor' (as in they live in the same forest) Marisa, who she argues with constantly, but still considers a friend.
But she also has a strong willed type of personality, and is extremely diligent and persistent. During a danmaku battle she often holds back however, since attacking with her full power is not a fun thing for her. She enjoys strategy, and even if she will lose, she refuses to use her full capacities as a magician. This is because if she did use her full powers and lost, she would feel like she's failed herself. In this way, she is slightly insecure.
Since she is known as the Seven Colored Puppeteer she seems to believe there is a connection between how many colors you are wearing and how strong you are. She has once told a character they only had 2/7ths of her power since they were only wearing two colors. There are also rumors that she wishes to create a doll that can exist on it's own as a living being.
She is an avid reader and an avid collector - she loves rare books, tea and tea paraphernalia, and dolls. If she lets you come into her room at all, she won't speak much, either reading or playing with one of the dolls. She has a thirst for knowledge that's rivaled only by a few other characters in the series, and she spends much of her time buried in books. These are the two major obsessions in her life - her love of books and her love of her dolls.
