Eric Cartman is described in various terms — in short, he is an evil, vicious, angry, self-absorbed, immature, destructive, sarcastic, snooty, loud-mouthed, lazy, and insane child with a foul mouth. He is also racist and stereotypes almost everyone he sees. The very dark, usually disturbing undertones to his personality often hint at an extreme mental imbalance. Apart from having a general lack of moral responsibility or social conscience, he also seems to take pleasure from others' misfortune and is generally unable to show empathy, although there have been exceptions. He has harassed and bullied people at his school, and, as a result, many people despise him. Cartman, however, does not consider himself to be a bully who likes to pick on other people for his own pleasure; in fact, he seems to disregard good or bad altogether (or perhaps simply does not have a concept of it) and does whatever he feels necessary for him to get ahead.
Cartman is the bastard child of Jack Tenorman, raised solely by his mother, Liane, and revered among her side of the family. He grew up spoiled to the core, handed nearly everything and anything he could ever want, even to the degree of receiving presents at other kid's birthday parties. Liane also hardly punished Eric, even if his indiscretions were considered heinous, instilling the habit of misbehavior. Needless to say, Cartman is always right, and even if he's not, he'll figure out a way to convince people he is. He possesses a lengthy criminal record, despite being so young, and has been arrested a total of six times.
