Zim is a member of the alien Irken race. Since his actions usually lead to disaster (having nearly destroyed the Irken homeworld during Operation Impending Doom I) his leaders, the Almighty Tallest, banished him to Foodcourtia. While there, however, Zim heard of Operation Impending Doom II, and - obviously not understanding the purpose of his previous exile - "quit being banished" and ventured to Conventia in the hope of getting an assignment. Chagrined, the Almighty Tallest sent him on a "secret mission" to Earth, in order to keep him away from Operation Impending Doom II.

G.I.R.
Despite being blatantly disobedient and often a hindrance to the mission, Zim often tolerates his SIR Unit, GIR. Typical of Zim's egotistical and narcissistic character, he declares his dislike of GIR openly and often, knowing that not only will GIR disregard everything he says, but that he probably won't understand him anyway. Zim's dislike of GIR most likely originates from Zim's egotistical nature, as well as GIR's erratic behavior and lack of obedience to his orders.
Gir And Zim
However, it is shown that Zim occasionally interacts with GIR as one would with a little brother, or even with a father to his naughty, 5-year-old son
Dib
Dib and Zim are usually portrayed as mortal enemies, sometimes as rivals, and occasionally reluctant allies. As the series progresses, they both develop a grudging respect for the other. It is important to note that Dib, like Zim, does not know that Zim's mission is just something to keep him out of the way, and that he is a disgrace to the Irken population. Because he thinks Zim is actually a respected Irken, he is known to question how intelligent the species as a whole may be
Gaz
The relationship between Gazlene and Zim in the show could be accurately described as unfriendly, and aloof. Acquaintances at best, neither character has ever expressed anything close to affection for, or even a friendly demeanour towards each other. In fact, Gaz has hardly spoken more than a few lines to Zim, and clearly considers him a vague nuisance, rather than an actual threat to Earth. In-between the events of the first few episodes, she and Zim met, though it can be said that it was a first meeting that was far from friendly or affectionate.
Love is like a sin, my love, for the ones that feels it the most. Look at her with her smile like a flame. She will love you like a fly, will never love you again.
-She goes on her knees, kneeling in front of him, putting her carnival-sized Zim and Gir plushies on either side of her with a grin of excitement- Oh. My. GOD! -Squees- This so damned excitin'! You're like... Tha greatest thing in tha entire universe! I don't even know if that'd even be enough! But all I know is that I friggin' LOVE ya... Alot. Lemme f*** sh*t up with ya. Pretty pretty pretty please? With death an' destruction ontop? I promise I'll be a good lil' human an' do everythin' ya say. -Makes the "Live Long and Prosper" sign as if that's also the alien version of crossing your heart or a pinkie swear-
//So... I had ideas for them two, but I never could figure out how to put it with the fact that I also somehow wanted Harley to know of his existence, so... Those got scrapped. Although, what if Zim found out about the existence of superhumans and decided to use one to help him destroy the Earth he was originally supposed to destroy in the first place? I wouldn't truly classify Harley much of one, and she doesn't really herself either, but she does make up for it though in other ways. And since I highly doubt comics and cartoons of the guy'd exist like it could on the Earth Harley's from, that could be the only way I can think of to correlate with her knowing of his existence, although I'm sure she'd have lots of questions, about that, Zim (because I've always felt Harley'd find aliens intriguing)... And maybe even finding out if the Twilight Zone actually exists or not. Although, I got a question. I know it's pretty dark already, but I read once that supposedly the guy who made it also wanted people to die and blood to be shed, just to make it more realistic, but Nick wouldn't let him. So... Would you be willing to possibly incorporate some of that into this?||
