Born of the Ketha Lowlands, Martok, Son of Uthog would live a hard fought life. Unlike Klingons of the Great Houses, he would have to prove himself worthy as a Klingon Warrior, rather than rely on his family's word and honor. But that did not stop him. For his heart truly did beat that of a warrior, and the call of battle would be one that he, in time would answer for many times throughout his life.
Eventually, after convincing his father to become a soldier and officer of the Empire, Martok took and completed his entrance exam. However, upon entering a formality to note his achievement, he was blocked by Kor, whom believed that no Klingon of noble blood would have any right to serve as a loyal soldier. And because of that he was denied even service as a common soldier, let alone an officer. For some time as a result, he ended up working as civilian labor, with menial tasks such as cleaning the officer's mess. A task that hardly if ever warranted any glory and honor. But that luck would change, that when in a battle with the Romulan Star Empire, the ship he served on was boarded. Martok fought with such bravery and tenacity, that he was recognized, and offered a battlefield commission. An achievement that his father would not live to see. But, even as he finally got his wish, he would not forgive Dahar Master Kor for denying him his place as an honored officer of the Empire.
Still, he continued to serve with distinction with the Empire, and would go on to serve at Gowron's side during the civil war, which in turn elevated him to hero status among his peers.
War was on their doorstep however, as the Gamma Quadrant was open thanks to the discovery of a wormhole near Bajor. And with it, a new superpower known as the Dominion threatened the Alpha and Beta Quadrant. And in a surprise turn of events, Martok was secretly captured by a Dominion patrol, while he was out Targ hunting. He would spend a great deal of ti me there as a prisoner of war. while a shapeshifter assumed his form to help spread the embers of war further by sowing distrust between the two biggest powers of the ALpha Quadrant. The Klingon Empire and the United Federation of Planets. Eventually though the plot was discovered, and General Martok was rescued and his honor restored.
The Dominion War was now in full swing. And General Martok would take command of a battered B'Red Bird of Prey, known as the Rotarrin. But after enduring loss over loss, his crew began to falter, and his own pride in his ability to command wavered. It would take the cunning of Commander Word to challenge his authority to help install that spark of a Klingon Warrior in him which had been lost. And, with that, bolster morale considerably. Since then, the ship's record of battle recorded many glorious victories against the Jem Hadar~ the loyal soldiers of the Dominion.
While politics was never an interest for General Martok, Worf would confront him on Gowron's descisions to send him deeper into dangerous missions. Ones that would sustain heavy losses, even potentially his own. Worf suggested that Martok would challenge Gowron;s authority over the council. But he declined, thus bringing it upon Worf to set the challenge himself. And after a tough fight, Gowron was slain, and Worf passed chancellorship to Martok-much to the General's disdain. And by the War's end however, Martok took it upon himself to name Worf his own personal ambassador as a way to repay his old friend in some twisted humor.
