The Man in Black

Personality: Aleter has a carefree, adventurous, almost devil-may-care attitude that seems entirely reminiscent to the late Hunter Vanguard, Cayde-6. He's quick to jump into the fray and loves the thrill of the fight and is always willing to taunt and mouth-off to his enemies, never without a quip or comeback. A master of the fast draw from a holster, he's an impressive marksman while at the same time, treating gunfights like a performance. Rarely one to work with others, he takes on various jobs and missions on his own, trying to keep all the good loot for himself. Because of the immortality that comes with being a Guardian, he displays a fearless attitude, treating any dangerous situation as much more of a challenge and reveling in its apparent difficulty. But this only how he is on the outside. Peeling back the layer of his Cayde-like personality, it shows that Aleter is a much more somber, solemn kind of person carrying a severe case of survivor's guilt after the events of the Prison of Elders breakout of Uldren Sov and his Barons. Despite many of his friends, including Cayde himself, telling Aleter that it wasn't his fault for how events transpired, Cayde's death left a deep scar, leaving Aleter a bitter and guilty person. His willingness to jump into a battle isn't only because he enjoys it, but because he wishes some enemy will get lucky and put a bullet in him and give him his final death, ending a life he feels he doesn't deserve to have. Few know of this deep level of self-resentment, and never by Aleter's own admission. Aleter also carries an intense hatred for the Scorn, most notably The Fanatic, Fikrul. While he had spent a good deal of his own time trying to figure out a way to put him down for good, nothing solid has been revealed as of yet. But Aleter is much more willing to break Vanguard rules after the events at the Prison of Elders, and with the Darkness now at the Sol System's doorstep, the temptation to use its power has never been stronger.

History: Rusted out, hollowed wrecks of snow-covered cars dotted the dilapidated highway stretching from the old Russian Cosmodrome, filled with the bodies of those who died at the hands of the Collapse. It was through these metal graves that a single Ghost, braving the harsh environment by his lonesome, looked to find his very own Guardian. He had spent a long time searching, centuries even, and hadn't come across the one who he could call his own. That was, until, he sensed something that drew his attention. Towards the edge of a cliff with a solitary car, he felt something that caused him to rush over, his whole being shaking with anticipation towards the feeling he had never experienced before. A single body rested there, and he knew, this was his Guardian. With a flash of light as his shell opened, the body was restored, and from the snow, arose the newly risen Light-bearer. The new Guardian didn't have much to his name. No memories of who he was, no real personal items on him to speak of. Only an old silver coin and a faded out nametag with six legible letters on it. He knew they were too far spread out to be a single name, but they were the only ones there, so he took them as his new one; Aleter. At the behest of his Ghost, Aleter made his way into the Cosmodrome to escape a rapidly forming blizzard, only to trade one danger for another. Fallen were crawling throughout the inside of the ruined structure, leaving Aleter to scavenge weapons to fight them off. Picking up an old Golden Age Khvostov auto rifle, he made his way deeper to find a means of escape. Fighting through Fallen and picking up whatever weapons he could get his hands on, he carved his way into a sealed-off hangar bay the Cosmodrome, wherein lied an old and rusted Arcadia-class jumpship that the Fallen hadn't been able to get their hands on. His Ghost immediately went to work, and within moments, the dilapidated ship sputtered to life. With little time to spare, they hurriedly boarded the ship, got the hangar bay doors leading outside to force open, and flew themselves out from the rusted tomb and on towards their new destination. The Last City; the only safe place left on Earth for humanity. Aleter's Ghost, who he had named Drake, had talked about it a lot, calling it their home now. And while they had made it to the City, it was far from the end of their troubles.

Two weeks after arriving in the City, the SIVA Crisis broke out. The conflict began when Fallen had recovered an ancient Golden Age technology from the long-sealed section of the Cosmodrome known as the Plaguelands. The Fallen who had recovered these ancient nanites had hoped to incorporate them into their own bodies to turn themselves into gods. From there, they began to subjugate the other Fallen houses while simultaneously spreading the techno-plague. Soon, it had made its way into the City itself, which began to overwrite the systems within Guardians' armor, providing both positive and negative effects. Even still, those who had become infected with SIVA mocked the Vanguard for trying to contain it, eventually resulting in a quarantine placed on the City to reduce Guardian exposure. One-third of all Guardians became infected, though Aleter was not one of them, watching from the new place he had been given to live. From his home, he had witnessed the kinds of changes that occurred within his fellow Guardians, ranging from fits of hostility to rampant paranoia. Thankfully though, a cure was soon developed after reverse-engineering the technology by Owl Sector, the Hidden, and the Techeuns from the Reef, much to the disappointment of the infected Guardians. Meanwhile, the source of the SIVA outbreak was dealt with by the combined efforts of Lord Saladin of the Iron Lords, who had dealt with SIVA centuries before, and the Guardian who had slain both Crota and his father, Oryx. From reports of the incident, The Fallen House of Devils had begun integrating SIVA nanites into their own bodies to enhance their own capabilities, despite the risks and side-effects, and had begun reproduction of the technology. Thankfully, SIVA had a self-destruct sequence in its coding as a last resort should it ever fall into the wrong hands, and through the actions of Lord Saladin and the Guardian, the techno-plague was destroyed, and the House of Devils robbed of their ill-gotten spoils. With the burden of the past lifted from Lord Saladin's shoulders, he began to rebuild the Iron Lords, recruiting Guardians as a new generation of the first protectors of the City, while the City itself recovered from the incident.

However, while Aleter had not been revived for very long, the SIVA Crisis had influenced him. He had seen what could happen to his fellow Guardians, and indeed himself. He grew to feel a sense of aversion towards working with other Guardians, growing detached from them, and preferring to work alone as often as he could. Most never really noticed his discomfort, but one person in particular did. The Hunter Vanguard, Cayde-6, who made it a point to take the fledgling Aleter under his wing. Eventually, Aleter became comfortable around Cayde, and the two ended up forming a tight friendship. From then on, Cayde began to assign Aleter's missions, sending him out on various scouting, infiltration, and intelligence gathering ops throughout the system. Using his lone-wolf attitude to his advantage, Aleter excelled as a stealth agent for the City, though he rarely ever saw combat as a result. This continued for a little under a year, where Aleter would complete missions assigned to him by Cayde, return to the City, and swap stories with the Hunter Vanguard. For the first time since he had arrived there, Aleter finally felt like he had found a place he belonged. Things, however, never stay peaceful for long, despite how many wish it would. Almost one year later, the City faced a Cabal invasion force, beginning the Red War. During the Taken War and the conflict with Oryx, the Taken King, Cabal who were in the system had sent a distress signal after heavy losses to Torobatl, the capital, and the seat of power of the Cabal Empire.
