Writing Sample (KH OC Starter)
~ A Few Years Earlier ~
“Hey slow down! Would you two just wait for me?”
“Giving up already? Come on Sora.”
“Yeah, brother you’re too slow!”
“That’s enough, I can’t run anymore!”
Arriving on a small Island Terra watched as three kids ran past him and played. Two in particular caught his eye, the young boy with silver hair and a young girl who seemed to hold something hidden deep within her heart. He was very unsure what he was seeing with the female child but as for the young boy, there was light, in which he questioned if this was the reason for why he had arrived on this world.
The three children rested upon a slanted tree that produced delicious star shaped fruit, perfect for sitting and gazing out towards the ocean’s horizons. The three, Riku, Sora, and Kiara, Sora’s younger sister, relaxed for a bit before Sora stood up seeing his and his sisters father rowing towards them to take them home.
“Oh! Ahoy! We’re over here!” Sora chimed before looking to the other two. “Let’s race! First one to the boat gets to be captain! Come on sis!” Sora giggled as he helped his sister down and the two began running.
“Come, on. You call that running!” Sora yelled back to Riku who simply walked back. When reaching the main beach both Sora and Kiara slowed their tracks to see who the stranger was before Sora continued on. Kiara stayed back waiting for Riku who too seemed interested in the stranger. Kiara listened to their conversation not really understanding anything they were saying. She was still too young and would most likely forget any of this happened, still she was a curious child and wanted to meet the stranger.
As Terra conversed with the boy, he watched as Riku walked towards the water in which Kiara followed now to play in the water not really paying attention at that point. Terra saw something then, first it was the young girl whom he suddenly saw a version of her as an adult. Her hair was long and blue as the ocean sea instead of the light brown it was now like her brothers, with an amulet of the sun and moon glowing brightly around her neck. She turned to face him with a smile before that version of her began melting away in darkness almost as if to turn into sludge before the young girl appeared back in its place playing in the water trying to hop over the waves. Riku also seemed to change forms before him. First a male he was very unsure of before changing again into the older age male that would someday be Riku.
This caused Terra to release a slight but quick gasp, suspicious like, before turning his attention back to the boy to continue their conversation. Once Riku told him why he was interested in other worlds to be stronger and protect his friends, he understood looking back at the young girl who would indeed need protecting if what he saw was true. This silver haired boy would be part of the next generation of Keyblade wielders.
“Rikuuuu!!! Kiaraaaa! Come on hurry it up!” Sora waved.
Kiara waved back before running towards Terra first handing him a Thalassa shell.
“For you!” She giggled. “For good luck.”
With that she ran back towards Sora, Riku following soon after and the three headed home with Sora constantly asking what happened.
~ Present day: Two weeks before Destiny Island’s Destruction ~
“Summer Vacation!!!” Kiara giggled jumping out of bed.
She was so excited to show everyone her new sketches. For a while now the young girl had been having some very realistic dreams of places or things she had never seen before. She started sketching them out mostly because she thought most of them were really pretty places or also just very odd or scary too. Her teachers and classmates considered her to have a very overreactive imagination and thought nothing of it, but for her, She felt there was more to them, she just didn’t know what.
Sora and their close friends all knew better though, especially when Kairi joined them on their Island. Now there was no doubt, Other worlds, other places, they had to exist but the question was, how could they get to them?
Getting dressed Kiara wore a cute skirt with a matching top. Her brown hair was up in a ponytail before grabbing a bag with a sketchbook and pencil. As she grabbed it a page fell out causing her to grab and look at it. It was a photo of a creature, Black with yellow eyes. She was seeing them more and more in her dreams lately and she knew it wasn’t a good sign. Something was coming and it worried her but without any real idea of what it could be there was nothing she could really say about it.
Putting the page away she pushed the thought away before rushing into her brother’s room.
“Sora wake up!” She giggled shaking him playfully. “Come on, todays the first day of no school! We can do anything we want today!”
“Mmh.” Sora grumbled. “Come on Kiara, Five more minutes!” He finally said when his sister wouldn’t let up.
“Okay fine, get some more sleep if you want but I’m buying us ice cream so if yours melts don’t blame me.” She spoke.
“Wah!?” Sora suddenly sat up. “Wait I’ll be ready in five minutes!”
Kiara giggled and began heading out.
“I’ll meet you at the Island then, okay?” She giggles and headed out of his room.
Before anything she grabbed a small foldable cooler from the freezer to keep the Ice cream in so it wouldn’t melt. It didn’t take her long to get the sea salt Ice cream and be at the smaller Island where everyone hung out. Despite her having to get the Ice cream she still arrived there first. She headed over to their favorite spot with the slanted tree and sat on top waiting for the others to arrive.
“It won’t be long now.” A male voice suddenly came behind her causing her to yelp in surprise.
“Oh, you scared me.” She said turning to see a hooded figure behind her in which she turned around to sit facing the stranger. “I’m sorry, who are you?”
“You dream of other worlds, of creatures that belong to the darkness. Soon, you will see more things, others cannot, and more things will happen, as you change to what you truly are.” The male said.
“How did you…” She began to say but before she could say more, she heard her name being called.
Kiara turned her head to look and see her brother and friends coming in with their boats.
“Look I don’t know what your ta- huh…?” She questioned as she turned her head back to the stranger who was gone. “That was strange… I wonder who that wa- Aaah!!”
Kiara screamed in pain suddenly causing her to fall back off the trunk of the tree and into the ocean water. A circle looking very close to a transmutation circled with cosmic symbols formed around her like a bubble of light. It flickered like electricity as it struggled to complete itself. She could feel searing pain run through her body as she desperately tried to swim back up to the surface but struggled. The symbols of light finally completed within the water then shifted to become one ball of light as it suddenly aimed for a specific point on the back of her left shoulder and shot her there.
The pain was unbearable it felt like a bullet was ripping through her skin before the light finally entered through her body leaving a heart shaped tattoo with a sun and moon symbol in the center that shined and glimmered like the sun where it hit. The ocean current was pulling her deeper in as her vision was becoming blurry as from the lack of oxygen.
