In a small town a couple had their first look at their newborn child. What little hair that fuzzed their baby's head was as white as the melting snow outside, and what few times he tried opening his eyes revealed that they were little suns, a dazzling gold hue. Not once did the infant cry, and the mother would always insist that her baby greeted her, and the world, with a little smile instead, and she named him Abdiel. Little did the new parents know, their child was an Aasimar. A human born from a blessed bloodline which in its past either intermingled with or was bound to something angelic.

The father tolerated the oddness of the baby for the first year of its life, assuming that Abdiel would eventually begin to resemble something more like his parents with age. When that didn't happen, he accused the mother of adultery, disowning the child as illegitimate and left them. Alone, the mother would raise her baby still. Times were usually difficult for the pair, but they formed an unbreakable bond between them through their struggles.

As Abdiel grew into childhood, so did his latent abilities. Once, while playing, one of his friends fell and suffered a grievous wound. Abdiel threw himself to his friend's side as the other children ran for help. As the parents and children returned to the grieving Abdiel, who had been holding his friend's hand, something happened. A surge of dazzling light emerged from the child, mending his friend's wounds and leaving them as though they were never harmed to begin with.

Soon, the story of what happened filled the air of every tavern and home in his town. Such were the rumors that people began to appear at Abdiel's home asking for help with their own problems. Eventually, the mother and child were visited by some of the leaders of their town, offering to take the boy in for his own safety, as well as let him earn money healing those who came. The mother, convinced that this was a great opportunity for Abdiel, encouraged the boy to give it a try, and ensured that he would be able to come right back home if he ever wanted to leave.

For most of his late teenage years, Abdiel stayed within a manor lent by the village leaders. From there, attendants would arrange meetings between Abdiel and patients and any business aspects of the venture. It was here he was given a moniker, 'The Miracle Healer'. He became renowned in his local area, helping those who had fallen ill or injured. What money he made, he would send to his mother. Eventually his clientele expanded, and he began tending to wealthy merchants and minor nobility.

Little did Abdiel know, this shift in clients began to come with higher prices, as the town leaders began to recognize Abdiel as a lucrative attraction for the town. Eventually, Abdiel saw less and less of the common locals and more of the well to do.

One day, members of the church came to the manor, demanding that the attendants surrender Abdiel to them. They claimed that what was happening in the manor was akin to building a cult and leading the faithful away. They further proclaimed that his abilities were from stealing divine power from the gods themselves, and that he should be tried for heresy.

Scared and confused, Abdiel packed his things and fled the manor that night, determined to gather his mother and run far from the reach of the church. Upon his arrival, he discovered his childhood home abandoned. Asking his neighbor, they revealed to him that much like others that lived in the town, his mother had fallen ill and was turned away from the manor for not having the fee to enter, as well as the guards believed her to be posing as a relative of Abdiel to gain entry. Even with all the money Abdiel had sent her, the price to see him had risen beyond any commoner's means. She later succumbed to her illness and passed.

Tears streamed down the aasimar's face as he ran blindly down the winding roads leading out of his town, vowing to his mother's spirit to do whatever he can to help those in need and to save as many lives as he could.
