Remi Blessing is a kind, carefree lad who enjoys spending his time outside and socializing with other people. Born and raised in the small town of Eufaula, the small-town ideals are the only thing he has ever known. He is clever, naive and a bit of a square due to his upbringing, but generally believes in the good of everyone. When he's done something wrong, he always rights those wrongs and isn't afraid to swallow his pride and do whatever he needs to do to correct his errors.
After an incident he suffered when he was nine, his left leg became severely injured to the point where it can't sustain his weight on its own, so he uses a crutch to get around and moves slightly slower than most. Despite that, he's ragingly optimistic and bright and never lets things bother him, refusing to be a burden to anyone and correcting people when they try to baby him for his disability -- though he has never told anyone what actually happened to cause the injury, getting very quiet and changing the subject quickly. He loves and respects his father, the preacher, but fails to realize that the punishments he suffers are actually abuse in their most textbook form (t/w for that).
The Town
A small, conservative town in the American midwest, Eufaula takes up an entirety of ten-square-miles and is surrounded by farm land on either side. It's residents cap out at no more than 383 people -- 384 including the newborn boy of the Robinson family. The town is the type that most people pass through on their way to other places and bigger cities. Every once in a while they will get people traveling who need to stay the night -- whether their car breaks down or it has just been too long and they need some rest -- and in that case the Blessing family acts as a Bed and Breakfast for the travelers, free of charge. If it is a longer stay, Obadiah asks only that they help with things around the farm to pay their dues, never asking for cash compensation. As the first house seen on the very edge of the town surrounded by vast fields of crops, it's a cozy stay in a decently sized farmhouse, within walking distance of Flying J's Diner and the local market.
The residents of the town are generally friendly and welcoming to all -- save for a few cranky elders and angsty teenagers -- but tends to share a more traditional mindset than what is popular in the big cities. They accept everyone and even have a lesbian couple that live up the street, but tend to say many well-meaning yet highly offensive comments towards people who stay in the town and are different from themselves. The younger generation is more open to the ideas of change, but the town elders are less welcome and stubborn about advancements.
The town's residents are very self-sufficient and rely only on each other, rarely leaving the town unless they absolutely need to. There are three farmers in total, Blessing being the largest one, along with carpenters, bakers, candlestick makers, and other such occupations which can cater to a variety of different people. They sell their items to the nearest big city as well, requiring that the city-folk pick it up themselves instead of delivering. Considering the quality of their products, this is an easily agreed upon negotiation.
