basic information

Full Name: Tengen Uzui
Race: Human
Gender: Male
Age: 23
Height: 6'6''
Weight: 209 lb
Birthday: October 31
Hair Color: White
Eye Color: Fuchsia
Affiliation: Demon Slayer Corps
Occupation: Shinobi, Demon Slayer, Sound Hashira
Relatives: Unnamed father, eight unnamed siblings
Spouse: Makio (wife), Suma (wife), Hinatsuru (wife)

Tengen was born into a family of nine children within a shinobi clan. By the age of 15, seven of his siblings had already died leaving only him and his younger brother. As children, his father had forced them to undergo harsh and intensive training as an attempt to save the clan, and influenced them to believe that they needed to dispose innocent lives for their benefit, and solely have a wife as means for producing offspring. With the remaining six of his siblings, they were forced to kill each other on their father’s orders without them knowing who killed who. Tengen had realized this after he had killed two of his brothers.

Once his brother adopted this mindset, Tengen became appalled and decided to leave the clan permanently. He would later meet his wives, and teach them to value themselves before the mission, going against their teachings as kunoichi. Even after he had left his clan, he anguished over him going to hell and not destroying the Uzui Clan.

Following the departure from his clan, Tengen and his family searched for Kagaya Ubuyashiki to help fight for the Demon Slayers, and he formally joined. Tengen would later go on to climb the ranks of the Corps and become the Sound Hashira before Sanemi Shinazugawa became a Hashira, and when Kanae Kocho was a member.

Do I look like I have some kinda talent?

Overall Abilities: As a Hashira of the Demon Slayer Corps, Tengen is a very powerful swordsman. He has displayed numerous abilities that allow him to easily overpower Demons in a fight and even allow him to battle on par against the Upper Rank of the Twelve Kizuki. During his fight against Gyutaro, he was able to fight evenly with the Upper Rank 6 while protecting others at the same time, a feat made all the more impressive by the fact that he also had to fight off Daki as well during one point in the fight. As the Sound Hashira, Tengen utilizes a sound-based combat style.

Immense Strength: Tengen possesses great physical strength, as shown during his fight with Gyutaro and Daki. One example of this is his ability to use his blades with great proficiency while only holding them at the tip and with only two fingers, as well as being able to fight Gyutaro with only one hand after his left hand was cut off. In an arm-wrestling contest between Hashira, Tengen is ranked second, with only Gyomei surpassing him. He was also able to knock out Inosuke and Zenitsu with a single strike each, though it was in a comical manner.

Immense Speed & Reflexes: Tengen possesses great speed, as stated by Inosuke Hashibira. He is able to cut off Daki's head before she can even register his movements.

Immense Stamina & Endurance: Due to his upbringing being raised to become a ninja and his own father's increased attempts to revive their clan by forcing Tengen and his siblings to train even more harshly and painfully then necessary, Tengen developed powerful resistance to pain, as seen where he bared little to no reaction at having being caught up in a hail of Kunai knives and being pierced by them without even flinching or showing any form of discomfort or pain, continuing his battle against Gyutaro with full concentration. Later Tengen was also noted to have suffered other severe/painful injuries during this battle and managed to acclimate/ignore the pain of such injuries as well.

Poison Resistance: As a shinobi, Tengen has been shown to possess high resistance to poison to the point where he could continue fighting while under the effects of a poison from Gyutaro that should have killed him instantly.

Tactical Intellect: Tengen has a lot of experience in battle as a ninja and Demon Slayer, shown during his battle with Gyutaro, where he displayed incredible judgement and precision in use of his anti-demon bombs.

Enhanced Senses: As a former ninja and skilled Demon Slayer, Tengen's senses are extremely honed and precise, allowing him to senses demonic presences over a wide distance.

Indomitable Will: Like all Demon Slayers, Tengen has an undaunted will, especially with his resolution to protect everyone else and his wives, his lifeline and joy.

Master Swordsman: Being a Hashira of the Demon Slayer Corps, Tengen is one of the most powerful and skilled swordsmen in the entire organization.

Sound Breathing: A Breathing Style that is branched out from the Thunder Breathing. The Sound Breathing combat style involves using a battle strategy called a "Score", which involves Tengen reading his opponents movements and deconstructing them into sound by analyzing the rhythm of their movements. Through this, he is able to take advantage of their openings to much greater effect by striking in a way similar to making the beat to a song. His combat style focuses on generating huge amounts of sound to overwhelm his opponents. In conjunction with this, he uses small but powerful anti-demon bombs made with a special gunpowder that are capable of overpowering an Upper Rank Demon briefly, and uses his sound abilities to make sure there is no collateral damage on humans when throwing them out of his line of sight.

Dual Giant Nichirin Cleavers: Befitting Tengen's flamboyant personality, he carries an equally flamboyant set of weaponry. As his main weapons, he uses two larger-than-normal Nichirin Blades that are amber in color, which each have a notch in the sharp ends of their blades and are held together at the hilt by a metal chain. His swords are said to have large amounts of explosive power, and it is stated that, until Tengen's fight with Upper Rank 6, no one had ever survived a blow from them. His hilt circular shaped with 4 slight indentations and gold in color, there's a maroon ring that connects to the center; it has an outer green border. His blades are engraved with the phrase Destroyer of Demons.

About me:
Who I'd like to meet:

the sound hashira

appearance and personality

I got chosen? Don't mess with me.

Tengen is a very tall, wide-set man of a bulky, muscular build with lightly-tanned skin. His hair is white and of uneven length, the longest strands reaching his shoulders, and is styled with three more notable, shorter clumps arching up to fall as bangs between his eyes and on either side of his face. He has quite thin, maroon eyes that appear to slant inwards, each with one long eyelash flowing to the far side of his face.

During his days serving Demon Slayer Corps, Tengen wears a sleeveless and dark turquoise version of the standard Demon Slayer uniform, along with a wrap of burgundy cloth around his calves where his hakama pants tuck in, and white-strapped sandals. He also wears two thick, golden rings around his upper arms and what appears to be a pair of fingerless blue gloves, secured around his middle finger with a band of white and his wrists with another set of thinner gold rings, this time with two on each side. As well as this, Tengen sports a white head-wrap that covers his hair, leaving only a thin ponytail visible to fall behind his head from between its layers, which is adorned with a large headband of pale gray that's decorated by six light pink gemstones, three large and arranged in a line, and three small and arranged in a triangle to the far left. A chain of smaller, pale blue gemstones hangs from each side of this headdress, framing his face, and he also wears what looks to be red eye make-up around his left eye, consisting of alternating large and small dots that run inwards, towards his eye.

After his retirement from the Demon Slayer Corps due to the injuries his sustained during his fight with one of the Upper Rank 6 Demons, Gyutaro, Tengen changes his appearance to coordinate the loss of his left eye and hand. He now wears a long, aqua-colored yukata and a black haori, and replaces his old head-wrap with a dark eyepatch adorned with what look to be the remaining gemstones left over from his old headdress, leaving his hair to fall loosely past his shoulders.
Tengen is a very eccentric person, always wanting to complete actions "flamboyantly." Although he has displayed an uncaring and forceful attitude towards some people—he gets excited imagining how "flamboyant" it would be if Tanjiro Kamado's blood vessels exploded, and tries to forcefully haul Aoi Kanzaki off to the Entertainment District with him so she can unwillingly help him with a dangerous mission—he also has a caring side that is mainly only shown towards his most treasured ones, most notably his three wives, Makio, Suma, and Hinatsuru. He also shows a somewhat nicer side towards Tanjiro after their mission and starts to accept him more as the series goes on.

Although it is heavily implied, Tengen likely has self-esteem issues and deep regrets under his outgoing front. During the battle with Gyutaro, he compared himself to his fellow Hashira, (Muichiro Tokito, Gyomei Himejima, Kyojuro Rengoku) for having natural talent. He also thinks that he is not capable of nurturing others like Rengoku or Shinobu.

Despite being a shinobi that has traditionally valued completing the mission over all else, Tengen has rejected that ideology after seeing its effect on his family. Now, he believes that his subordinates, whether they be his wives or the Demon Slayers under his command, should value their lives, and the lives of innocents, over their missions or his own.

How many lives do you think have slipped through my fingers?

Tanjiro Kamado
Tengen first meets Tanjiro at his trial among the other Hashira. Upon hearing that he's been travelling with a Demon, Tengen initially vouches to kill him since he has disobeyed the rules and also rejects Kagaya's blessing to allow Nezuko and Tanjiro to travel together.

When they meet again at the Butterfly Mansion, Tanjiro becomes angry and confronts Tengen after witnessing his attempt to kidnap Aoi and Naho. During the intense exchange, Tengen becomes fed up with Tanjiro's attitude and explodes at him for disrespecting him despite being his superior. However, the exchange eventually cools down when the boys offer to accompany Tengen on his mission instead of the girls.

As they formally begin their mission, Tanjiro's naïvety pleases Tengen, seemingly melting away any tension between them. When Tanjiro struggles to restrain Nezuko following her demonization, Tengen scolds him for his lack of control over his sister and advises him to put her to sleep, instead of attacking her himself.

As the two work together to take down Gyutaro, Tanjiro becomes concerned over Tengen's deteriorating health due to the poison and constantly tries to protect him from oncoming attacks. Even during situations when Tanjiro is risking his life, Tengen consistently manages to throw Tanjiro out of the way, or protect him before he can be seriously wounded.

At the end of the battle, Tengen turns around to warn Tanjiro of Gyutaro's oncoming attack instead of fleeing showing his concern for him. Despite having horrible wounds himself, Tengen still shows his concern for Tanjiro's well-being as he tells him to stay still, if not he would die from his injuries. Following the completion of their mission, Tengen finally acknowledges Tanjiro's abilities by telling Obanai that he "has grown to become strong enough" to fill his vacancy as he retires.

Nezuko Kamado
Initially, Tengen didn't accept the Kamado siblings because Tanjiro Kamado was keeping his sister who was turned into a demon alive. Hearing that he had been traveling with a demon, Tengen vouched to kill both of them for breaking the corps rules. What changed Tengen's mind about Nezuko is when he was dying from Gyutaro's poison, Nezuko used her Blood Demon Art to completely burn away the poison from his entire body which at first, confused Tengen thinking if it was even possible. He eventually retires from being a Hashira due to being rendered incapable of fighting.

Zenitsu Agatsuma
When the two originally meet, Zenitsu develops a disdain for Tengen after he attempted to kidnap the girls of the Butterfly Mansion, and due to his flamboyant personality, even referring to him as the "god of idiots." Tengen's frivolous attitude doesn't sit well with Zenitsu's character and often annoys him. When Tengen tells the boys of his plan to find his wives, Zenitsu becomes enraged at his womanizing antics and mocks him for claiming to have three wives, which results in him getting knocked unconscious by Tengen.

Tengen's appearance also causes Zenitsu to seethe with jealousy as he appears to draw more attention from the women within the Entertainment District. Zenitsu's dislike for Tengen reaches its peak when he abandons Zenitsu at the Kyogoku House and tells the manager to have him clean the brothel, causing Zenitsu to seethe with rage as he is left to complete his mission.

Inosuke Hashibara
Tengen initially finds Inosuke to be quite disturbing due to the boar's head he wears. When Tengen introduces himself to the trio of boys, Inosuke uses the opportunity to introduce himself as the "god of the mountain", however his introduction does not appeal to Tengen and he calls Inosuke "creepy." Inosuke's blunt personality also doesn't sit well with Tengen as seen when he punched Inosuke for carelessly questioning if Tengen's wives are even alive.

Inosuke doesn't necessarily speak to Tengen with respect as seen when he blamed him for being reckless and allowing the obi to escape from the underground cavern. However, Inosuke does acknowledge Tengen's advanced abilities and skills to the point where he mimics Tengen's catchphrases.

Iguro Obanai
Despite Tengen's victory against Upper Rank 6, Obanai downplays this significant achievement to instead emphasize the extent of his injuries. Tengen, for his part, brushes aside Obanai's concerns, insisting on retiring and disagreeing with the latter's sentiment that the Demon Slayers were going into decline.

Makio, Suma, and Hinatsuru
Tengen holds a large amount of respect for his wives and cares about them deeply. When Tengen joined the Demon Slayer Corps, he made sure to inform his wives that they needed to prioritize their lives instead of the mission, and make sure to return home to him. Tengen wanted to make clear that his wives were his top priority in regards to keeping people safe.

During their stay in the Entertainment District, Tengen would often communicate with them via letters and decided to search for them once he stopped receiving them. When Inosuke question if his wives are even alive anymore, Tengen becomes enraged and punches him unconscious, showing that he chastises any disrespect towards his wives.

Later on when Tengen discovers Hinatsuru in the Kirimise, he administers medication to her and asks her if she's alright. When she starts to apologize to him for failing the mission, Tengen reassures her that she did well and embraces her tightly before instructing her to leave the district for her safety. However when Hinatsuru returns to assist in the fight against Gyutaro, she gets captured by the Demon causing Tengen to go into a panic to try to save her. Tanjiro manages to save Hinatsuru in time, allowing Tengen to express his gratitude towards him and mentioning that he "owes him one" for saving his wife.

When Tengen discovers the underground cavern, he slashes the obi within the vicinity of his wives and apologizes to Suma and Makio for being late. He approaches the women and pats them on the head, reassuring them that they've lived up to his expectations as his wives, causing the two of them to tear up upon reuniting with him.

Following the events of the final battle, Suma, Makio, and Hinatsuru immediately rush in to administer first aid to Tengen, but his wounds appear to be too grave for them to treat, causing them to worry. They each become concerned for his well being as Suma begins to wail, Makio begins to panic, and Hinatsuru begins to weep at the sight of his injuries. However when Nezuko manages to heal Tengen from being poisoned, the women rejoice at the fact that he's been healed, and wail as they share a relieved hug with him.
