๐ช Open to fitting him into fandom verses that I am familiar with as well as modern and futuristic/cyberpunk settings. Gay. Versatile. The only chick I'm accepting from hereon out is Jiaojiao, maybe A-Qing.
Formerly a mere delinquent, he is the sole man responsible for the massacre of Yueyang Chang and Baixue Temple. Yet, with the backing of Jinlin Tai and, more specifically, Jin Guangyao, he was pardoned for the former and set free from his rightful imprisonment and pending execution. ~
Demonic Cultivation - basically, necromancy. A dark form of cultivation that doesn't require a Golden Core. It takes its toll on the user, both mentally and physically, over time.
Pain Tolerance - He barely, if at all, feels pain. He will continue to fight until his body can no longer move.
Manipulation - Though not as good as Jin Guangyao, at least among those who know of him and what he's done, Xue Yang can act and be charming and generally good-natured if it will get him what he wants. On the flipside, he can also scare people into doing what he wants. When it comes to non-cultivators, sometimes he needs only to scowl at them.
Disguise - At least after a certain event, it's shown that he is able to create very convincing disguises. If he spends enough time around someone that has his interest, he can also put on that person's mannerisms in a just as convincing manner.

Orphaned at a very young age and left to fend for himself upon the streets of Kuizhou, Xue Yang was - at first - a happy-go-lucky child. Trusting, helpful, as innocent as an orphaned child could ever be. In other words, he was an easy little thing to take advantage of. Fortunately, it didn't get him killed. Unfortunately, this innocent nature ended up getting crushed out of him by way of a very large cart rolling over his very small hand after a series of unfortunate events that set the kid on a path of blood and vengeance.
That path, and the particular set of skills he had set about cultivating, was summarily noticed by one Jin Guangyao. After his little gig with the then-defeated Wen Ruohan he needed something new to do, so Xue Yang moonlighted as a guest disciple of the Jin's while he did further research for his new bestie Guangyao on demonic cultivation. It was during this time that his fate became unknowingly entwined with a pair of meddlesome daozhang during a fun trip to the market.
He went on to put his research to use when he eventually got around to ruining Chang Ci'an's day. That was also the incident that gained the attention of one Xiao Xingchen, who - also eventually - managed to capture him in a failed effort to bring him to justice. Jin Guangyao still had a use for Xue Yang and pulled enough strings (and threatened the only sole witness enough) to exonerate him. With his freedom restored, Baixue Temple was his next stop, and it went from somber temple to charnel house fairly quickly. Can't let good deeds go unpunished, you see. Speaking of seeing, he made sure Song Lan couldn't do that anymore; he arrived on the scene just in time to get an eyeful of eye-burning dust.
Not long after that, he was deemed too much of a liability for Jin Guangyao to keep around. After all, the head of the cultivation world keeping the company of such an infamous scoundrel... Well--that's just a bad look. (un)Fortunately, this sudden end to their friendship also didn't kill Xue Yang. It did leave him bleeding out in a ditch, but one man's bad luck is another man's fortune.
