School Years

A witch whom exists in the hidden magical world, Luna Lovegood believes in things on faith alone even if the evidence or logic for them is rather questionable. She attends Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry as a member of the Ravenclaw house, most known for being rather clever and quick-witted. As per her house motto, "Wit beyond measure is man's greatest treasure." But Luna has a hard time fitting in anywhere as her nature is rather odd and off-beat of what others might consider normal. Despite her quirkiness, Luna is often perceptive about human nature and has a knack for blunt honesty.
Both Luna's parents are magical. Her father, Xenophilius Lovegood, is the editor-in-chief of The Quibbler, a magical magazine that publishes "important stories he thinks the public needs to know". Her mother was an extraordinary witch who died when a spell experiment went wrong. Luna is isolated at school, but she cares very little for what others think. She is aware of the nickname given to her by her class mates — the nickname "Loony", by which she is widely known among the students — but is unperturbed by it and is largely unfazed when her classmates tease her by regularly stealing and hiding her possessions.
Luna has a knack for handling people's emotions well, often able to quell anger or fear when most others cannot, and she acts as a pillar of support even if the party she is supporting does not like her. Because of the oddball nature of both her and her father, Luna is cast out of most groups of people and called a loser or lunatic. But the words have no effect, as she is rather certain of who she is and will not apologize for her behavior. She is mocked rather frequently, but Luna enjoys the laughter of others, even if the laughter comes at her own expense and she is the butt of the joke.
Luna also sometimes substitutes in as commentator for Quidditch (a magical sport played on broomsticks), during which she says little about the play – talking instead about "interestingly-shaped clouds" above the stadium and how nice the players are or referring to one player as suffering from "Loser's Lurgy". The professors do not quite know what to do with her, but some fans find her commentary highly amusing.
Despite her air-headedness, Luna is quick-witted and clever, being much more in tune to human behavior and making observations that others simply would not be able to make. At a wedding, she is able to immediately recognize a party guest despite the fact that he is disguised with Polyjuice Potion which changes him into the form of another person entirely, able to recognize him simply by the expression he had on his face. Luna is also tremendously brave and will not hesitate to fight for something she believes in if her friends so ask it of her. She is loyal to a fault when someone shows her kindness or helps her find her things hidden by other students, not forgetting their actions and returning the favor three times over.
In a particularly dark year in the wizarding world, Luna was kidnapped by dark wizards in an effort to prevent her father from publishing valuable information in The Quibbler. But she managed to escape mostly unharmed after being rescued by her friends, standing her own ground and fighting for their escape.
Later Years

After graduating from Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, Luna becomes a Magizoologist; a profession where she discovers and classifies magical creatures all across the globe. She has come across many creatures that had never been encountered before and takes careful time to investigate and document them. Due to her gentle and open nature, magical creatures tend to trust her easily.
Her works take her all across the globe and she is well-reknown in the wizarding world. Sometimes her duties interfere with the world of Muggles -- non-magic folk -- and she must do her best to disguise the existence of magical creatures from the view of non-magics or risk exposure of the wizarding world as a whole, which would be quite drastic as those possessing no magic abilities have already proven how dangerous they can be.
