ULTRAVIOLET

Vegeshin Akurehn is the second son of Kavi and Raza, and the younger sibling of elder brother Kazura Reikehn.

As a young lad, Veji, as many called him by, always exuded optimism, curiosity, and a sense of adventure. And that changed little as he grew older. Optimism perhaps replaced with a bit of pragmatism, a sense of realism, but never outright replacing the positive nature inherent within him.

His desire for knowledge is deep, his appetite for growth ravenous, and his dream of returning his planet to his people immeasurable; as is his dream of reclaiming his brother from the Totalium.

Tales

Planet Ouri;

Our story begins on a distant planet, far flung from civilized worlds, and hub planets. A planet thought to have been the cradle of civilization itself. The first celestial body thought to have harbored life. Planet Ouri, home to the long since lost race of beings known as the Ouri-Jin; the progenitors of all life, or so stories declare.

It’s on this planet that a race of beings known as the Zhoukai-Jin live; leading calm, and peaceful, nomadic lives. Farmers, warriors, crafters, and the like, they live gentle lives, taking up spear and combat only in the face of attacks from beasts or rival nomadic clan, the Onoukai-Jin.

As children, Vegeshin and Kazura both grew to learn the trade of their people, helping father tend to fields of budding fruits and vegetables, or helping to raise what scant livestock their clan tended to. As they grew, they began to venture out with the warriors of their tribe, learning to hunt and to defend against beasts capable of attacking their tribal encampments.

As they grew older, and their settlements moved about, they eventually discovered the caverns of the Ouri-Jin; long lost tombs of forgotten knowledge left behind by the progenitor race. With but a touch, their minds were inundated with knowledge, understanding, and power. Or, better, the ability to harness that power. Ouri, named after the progenitor race themselves; a luminescent energy all things possess, flowing from one to another like a leaf on a breeze. The energy of existence; tangibility; reality. And finally, a title. A moniker under which their specific teachings fall beneath. As the Zhoukai-Jin naturally do not adopt surnames, these titles instead supplemented the idea of a surname for them.

But this discovery brought about one caveat; an unthinkable task in completing the teachings. They’d have to search out additional sanctuaries, it seemed. And, while in time they accomplished such a goal, it became evident that…while this planet had harbored them at one time, they had eventually departed for other worlds, taking their knowledge and teachings with them. To see it to completion would be to follow in their footsteps…something not feasible.

In the process, our two siblings begin to tread very different ideological paths. One of peace, and one more of aggression in their newfound abilities.

But, that would change in time…

The Incursion;

As the years ticked by, the planet soon came under notice from tendrils of a foreign race of beings whose tendrils had managed to snake out into the distant stars, eventually securing footing on the hospitable planet. What began as a slow trickle eventually blossomed into a great migration of foreigners, eager to break new ground and establish roots on the fertile planet. While the Zhoukai-Jin were kind and offered up some of their lands in a bid to strike peace with the incoming settlers, the Onoukai-Jin were far more hostile and eager for blood.

The dissonance created from such hostilities bred the sentimentality that all the native people of the planet should be treated with caution and fear. And tensions sharply rose as the technologically superior migrants began to forcibly push back the native inhabitants of the lands with large settlements eventually growing into gargantuan mega-cities.

As hostilities grew so did the nature of relations with the Zhoukai-Jin eventually forced to push back lest they lose all their own lands. Our two protagonists took up charge as leaders of separate warring parties, with two very different ideas of progress. One of futility in negotiation and peace, with violence the last resort…and the other through fear, intimidation, and hyper-aggression.

But it was naught to be as, while naturally gifted and physically superior, they could not match the technological might of these, now thought of as, invaders. Once nemesis’s, the two natural inhabitants of the planet began to work in synchronicity with one another in a bid to retain what little they could manage.

And eventually a stalemate came to pass with the two planet-born races securing small swathes they could call their own. But, this too, in time would not remain.

Intergalactic War;

While a small victory the planet-born races had achieved, it mattered not as with the great incursion, the once dim, and unnoticed, rock had grown luminescent; a shining beacon now heard of across countless galaxies for its fertile lands, beautiful vistas, and peaceful living; a beautiful blend of technological advancement, and yet still brilliantly habitable lands. But even moreso, the capabilities of the born inhabitants of the planet. This information eventually touched the ears of an Emperor whose own Empire constantly wobbled on the line of collapse and destruction. An Empire constantly forced to grow and consume lest its own populace secure its demise. Unable to support its own weight, it continued to grow and consume, searching out planets capable of housing populace, planets capable of being mass farmed, planets capable of being converted into manufacturing hubs, and planets that housed easily subjugated races for cheap, if not free, labor through slavery.

This ravenous empire soon sent forth a massive tidal wave of troops and ships with the sole intention of ruthlessly annexing the planet to pull it into the Empire. And upon first landing swiftly set about targeting all the largest cities in a bid to thin numbers and steal their technological boons, as this Empire lacked such technological fidelity themselves.

In the midst of quarreling with those who’d migrated, the native races soon fell under the scrutinous gaze of the warring parties eyes, becoming targets themselves of enslavement. And while powerful, they too could not withstand the sheer numbers thrust upon them. Our protagonists, as great as they had become, lacked the might necessary to protect their homelands, their people, and their once nemesis’ from the cold clutches of this Empire. And soon the planet fell to the grasp of this terrible enemy.

For a time, our protagonists were forced to build defenses, aid in commanding subjugated parties in farming efforts to help keep the warring troops in health, and in some instances were put into war parties to attack the very settlers that had made the great migration to the planet. Moments of mutiny arose in varying parties but were snuffed out and put to rest either through brute force or extermination, leading to a great sense of futility and surrender in the surviving parties.

When things grew their bleakest a sudden arrival of the settlers empirical forces spurned a sudden tidal shift. Technological superiority against limitless numbers and stolen tech created what appeared to be a never-ending stalemate, with the cost being the planet and native inhabitants. Two empires at war over what appeared to be naught but a planet soon gave way to the true reasoning; empires encroaching on each other's territory, with the vile empire known as the Totalium, being the true instigator. The opposing Emperium merely sought to push back the encroaching empire, but found its innumerable forces a challenge to deal with.

In the midst of this insurmountable stalemate, the Totalium sought to use all the leverage it had at its disposal, dispatching not only the native inhabitants they’d enslaved, but equally enslaved natives from nearby planets as well, bolstering their endless numbers and using natives familiar with the lays of the land. While the nearby planets did not share mirrored, identical, layouts, the system itself shared enough in common that the native inhabitants did possess mild superiority in guerilla tactics.

Still, in the face of such technological superiority, the advantages they held were at best minimal, and in the end, the stalemate continued to draw on. For our protagonists, this meant continued redeployments into the fields with each return promising more death and loss on the native inhabitants side.

With the siblings losing friends, and family alike, their spirits continued to grow weary, and temperaments pivoted violently. Vegeshin growing disheartened pondered the idea of attempted escape, whilst Kazura sought a more violent, aggressive, approach…taking out his hatred on those he’d been set loose upon. The more violent and aggressive he grew, the higher in ranks he rose. And eventually, the Totalium recognized him for such a thing, taking him offworld into the core system for…proper reprogramming and training to become something more.

The Search;

With his brother now gone, lost to the whims of the Totalium, Vegeshin struggled to remain positive. His family had been lost. His brother had been taken. His lands were no more. And his brethren natives dwindled in numbers. Regardless of whether or not either side won or lost, his people, and their rival people, had certainly lost everything.

When word of a battle for one of the planetary capitals spread, Vegeshin and a band of both Zhouka-Jin and Onokai-Jin, were scraped together with scraps of other enslaved races; Hopaou-Jin, Tenami-Jin, and Namaiko-Jin. This group would be tasked as a frontline force. Essentially fodder to slow the oncoming waves. With little to offer outside of physical ability, the myriad of them resigned themselves to their fate.

But in a moment of sheer happenstance, one of the opposing vessels suffered critical malfunctions and, in a bid of miscommunication, the operators flung themselves from the vehicle leading it to crashland a distance away. As the frontline forces were whittled away, Vegeshin and a few select others, under cover of mounting twilight, made a break for the downed vessel. While the landing had been rough, it didn’t appear to have ultimately totaled the vessel. And within this group of escapees, one familiar with the tech of the Emperium, having been enslaved for some time.

Upon boarding the vessel, they determined it to be space faring, and as the skirmish over the city continued, set about maintaining the vessel's systems until functional once more. Once the systems were restored, they set about piloting the vessel and in a bid for freedom, took to the sky whilst immediately brought under fire. The shielding capabilities of the vessel were enough to deter incoming damage and upon breaking through the atmosphere, freedom had become theirs.

Once free from the confines of the planet, each member had their own priorities and desires. Of all of them, Vegeshin’s remained last as he sought only one thing. To grow and flourish and become something more so that one day he could return to this planet and return it to his people…should they manage to persist. But beyond that, he sought to one day regain his brother from the clutches of the Totalium. Until that day, though, he’d search out the remaining sanctuaries of the Ouri-Jin; their knowledge and teachings.

Until that point he’d find himself saddled with two associates. One, a Namaiko-Jin, and the other…an Onoukai-Jin.
