Edward James Kenway, better known as Captain Kenway was born in Swansea, Wales to Bernard and Linette Kenway. Little is known of his childhood, but at the age of ten, his family moved to a farm in Bristol, soutwest England. Much to young Edward's disdain. As a rebellious youth, he became quite the prankster and trouble maker as a result.
At seventeen, Edward met a young woman by the name of Caroline Scott, whom saved him from a tavern fight. And within a year's time the two married and had one child, a daughter, which she had kept secret for him. To say their marriage was blissful would have been a lie. Within the year's time Caroline became fed up with Edward's ability to hold a job or his excuses to take responsibility as a proper husband. For Edward, his goal was to find a get-rich-quick scheme that would work, however those ended in disaster. His final straw would have been leaving Caroline to join a privateering crew, as major empires battled for spices and resources through the major trade routes in the Americas.
He left, and soon joined a crew. However during one fateful battle, the schooner became embroiled in a heavy battle on top of a storm, leaving the captain dead, the ship wrecked, and Kenway himself stranded on some remote island in the Caribbean. But fortune was around the corner. For he had met an assassin, gave chase, and later killed the man after a brief altercation. The assassin had a small vessel, as well as an artifact of immense value. It turned out that the assassin was defecting to their warring faction known as the Templars~ And Kenway would soon learn of their plot. A massive observatory which would tip the balance of worldly power in their favor.
Eventually Kenway was able to comandeer himself a new ship. A brigatine which he later named the Jackdaw. While its frame had been battered in a recent storm, he was able to repair and rebuild the ship. As well as outfit it with stronger armored sidings, a battering ram, and a new heavy payload of cannons, fire barrels, and mortars, which later became its own pocket-warship capable of squaring off with the larger ships of the line and even well fortified outposts.
While Kenway was a pirate first and foremost, the very idea of these people having this much power soon swayed him to help the remaining assassins, as well as a band of pirates as they formed a fleet to combat the rising Templar and governmental powers in their jockey for power. There would be much bloodshed and harsh battles ahead of Kenway, but he soon redeemed himself and his killings in the eyes of the assassins, and even joined their order once he supplied them with a new base.
