Born in France to a vineyard owning family, and a legacy of explorers, Jean-Luc Picard would leave his humble home to pursue what he loved most. Exploration of the final frontier.
His interests included history, exploration, archaeology, philosophy, and other arts. However, he was mostly recognized as a more restrained individual~ one whom would not be as sociable as his other peers. However, Jean-Luc would always trust in his friendships and crew through the most dire of situations, and as such would have their backs in every step of the way. He was a man whom respected duty and honor as both a member of Starfleet, and as a human in general. From commanding men in battle to being a diplomat to oversee peace treaties between the harshest of warring worlds, and having the privilege to represent the United Federation of Planets to twenty seven distinct alien species. And more in his service record until finally retiring to Admiral.
Picard at first however, was more arrogant and aloof to his duties. He was short tempered, and always willing to accept a fight in order to prove himself. However, those actions nearly caused him his life, when he picked a fight with a dangerous nausicaan crew. While he held off some of their numbers, one managed to plunge a dagger into his heart, putting him into a critical condition. Thankfully, against odds, he was able to survive thanks to a cybernetic implant, a replacement heart. This in turn taught him a valuable lesson, which would both humble and haunt him for the rest of his life.
He eventually graduated Starfleet and would go on to serve on board the USS Stargazer, a small unassuming cruiser outfitted for scientific studies. However, during one mission, a Ferengi captain engaged their ship in a surprise attack leaving the captain and much of the crew dead or injured, and the ship a damaged hulk. But, Picard mustered what he could of the crew and devised a clever tactic, which destroyed the Ferengi attacker and saved his people. Though the Stargazer was too damaged to limp back to Starbase and was abandoned. But for his heroic efforts, Picard was recognized, and would move on to captain a ship of his own.
Eventually a new line of ships would be christened, the more luxurious and spacious Galaxy Class starship. One of the most powerful in the fleet, one would become the flagship of the Federation, the USS Enterprise. Which just happened to be Picard's newest command. A five year mission was soon approved by Starfleet Command, and Picard would soon meet his crew. From an orphaned Klingon, to the Federation's only lifelike android.
