Big blue eyes stared intently with her potential client, his intensity met clear and calm waters; the shiver that wanted to crawl up her spine was suppressed by her eagerness to entertain and comfort.
โNuh-uhโฆ I donโt know who you are but thatโs okay! Asuna doesnโt judge anyone who needs company!โ
Her ignorance could be seen as childish or naive. She was more akin to an eager puppy than a rabbit. She carefully took his hand and placed her business card against his palm, covering it with her own.
โPromise to keep this card safe? It has my name on it too so you wonโt forget me.โ
The words she spoke were far heavier than she intended for them to be, unsure of where they stirred from and she immediately wanted to retreat if her damn legs werenโt already frozen where she stood. Hitomi endured what she considered a poor choice, a nervous fidget had her tucking a strand of hair behind her ear and averted her gaze as he deemed her efforts as poetic. How embarrassing was that?
She didnโt seem to understand whether he meant that sarcastically or if it was genuine, blushing harder as a result of this uncertainty.
This silence was far more exposing than she wouldโve preferred. And Hitomi made sure that everything about herself was kept away from the gaze of anyone who hadnโt already known her past. She preferred for people to see her as the woman who stood before them.
An enchanting beauty that could pull you in, an unforgettable experience; one that you could hold only temporary and once you thought you had her, she slips away. Leaving you to question whether her existence was nothing but a dream.
"Excuse me?" His words pulled her right back in. Now her eyes were on him, a brow raised. Those damned onyx eyes of his had their own gravitational pull. And as tempting as an offer that might be, Hitomi knew the difference between reality and the dream world. She laughed softly.
"Come on now, weโre adults. Stuff like wishes are meant for kids that have their entirety of their lives to look forward to making them come true." She spoke as if her life was already over. Yet, she was only in her early twenties. The warmth of his hand surprised her. A contrast of temperature when the condensation of the glass made her palm feel quite cool. There was something about the way he touched her, how her mind would wonder at the possibility of what it would feel like to have that very same hand explore her body.
"Yes." What made her respond so quickly? Was it to match the way her heart was pounding? She didnโt understand it in the slightest. That raspy tone of his was becoming a weakness.
Time had passed between every sip that he appeared to savor. Hitomi took note of this mentally as he done so, wondering if she was ready for what he was going to say next.
He gulped it all down to the last drop and just as he went to reach for it to refill, her hand unwillingly stopped in mid-air from his question. There was no alcohol that lingered on his breath, this was truly something asked from the depths of his soul and would no doubt would be responsible for the way his eyes looked. Hitomi gradually rose her gaze to meet his, unaware that she had been holding her breath the entire time. The grief within his stare was almost impossible to withstand and she forced herself to pay attention to that empty glass. A thankful blessing in the eye of the storm that was his misery.
"Listen, I donโt..." His hands pressing against the counter made her lose what she was saying. Watching as he leaned forward, the way his bangs were slick and cast shadow on his brow and gaze, she had to bury the sudden desire to brush them back. A thick bead from the rain ran down the curve of his cheek.
She could not understand why in that forsaken moment, he was the only one capable of holding her attention as if all else, everyone else, had disappeared without a trace.
"I have wanted something. Desperately. Something my whole entire life that I knew was impossible for me from the moment that my brain could understand. When it wasnโt getting punched in." A crude attempt at humor that brought forth a forced laugh. "And unsurprisingly here I am, still without it. So I cannot regret something that Iโve never once obtained."
The glass in hand, she lowered to her side of the counter, right next to the book. Her eyes fell to it, as if contemplating what to say or why she had even bothered to say it at all. Was it at all surprising to him? She was just a hostess, a prostitute making a living to get by. And thatโs all she ever would be.
"Yet, you..." She glanced back at him. "Your eyes are so thick with grief, itโs almost as if the sky is crying for you."
The request was a little bizarre. Most couldโve gotten water and then some from the dozens of places on the street, so why did this guy come here? Still, they couldnโt turn down anyone that couldโve been a potential client.
So Hitomi nodding and obliged, disappearing for a moment to retrieve a tall glass of iced water. The glass itself has the design of the brothel right on the center, the cubes readjusting as she placed it on the counter right in front of him. She caught the way he was looking at her, the heavy downcast in his eyes that foretold of something much deeper than she could possibly imagine.
Troubled souls were a normal. They passed through here to get in touch with reality, for as little and fleeting as that time spent may be. And Hitomi did her best to remedy that pain, as did all the other hostesses employed her. The weight of his onyx eyes did temporarily pin her in place.
Her own was a beautiful swirl of turquoise, never did they seem to decide on whether to just remain green or blue. They fluctuated with her emotions, it was always easy to see whenever she was passionate or determined.
"What brings you here, hm?" For the moment, she was back to checking on the entrees. She had a little smile on her face, humming to herself while she waited for him to open up. If he wanted to do so, that is.
The faintest smile tugged at the corners of her lips, yet her voice had the velvety rasp of someone teetering on the edge of slumber and awareness. "Hungry..." she murmured, drawing out the word like a purr.
Her hand lazily slid up to rest against the arm that draped over her, fingers brushing his skin like an instinctual motion she rarely indulged in, turning her head just enough for a glimpse of him.
This closeness should have unnerved her. Usually, anyone intruding upon her sleep would be met with curses - or worse. Yet,ย he was the only one she allowed this near.ย
"All soft words and kisses... first thing in the morning?" She shifted back, letting her body press deeper into his warmth. "You better make it worth dragging me out ofย this bed... because right now, youโre the only thing Iโm craving."
