Saria, with her fairy companion would begin her life in the Deku Forest. A safe haven of small forest folk called the Kokiri, whom were cared for by the ancient Great Deku Tree. "
Like all Kokiri girls, Saria would spend much of her life inside the forest, as any whom would wander from its safe protection, were said to be doomed to perish. But, she was cut of a more adventurous cloth. Every day, the youth would venture beyond the village and deep into the Lost Woods, where she would befriend its many denizens. But, while the forest and the village appeared to be peaceful and safe. It was far from. For dark forces were gathering. Armies lead by various tribes were descending upon the kingdom of Hyrule, lead by a thirst for conquest.
And while war raged, one evil entity would rear its ugly head. Eventually the war came to an end, leaving Kokiri Forest relatively unharmed. Say for the sudden arrival of a small child, dropped off by a mysterious woman. The child, in turn would be cared for by the Great Deku Tree as one of his own, and eventually grow to become one of Saria's closest friends. This of course garnered much ire and jealousy of an older friend of Saria's however. For the village leader, Mido saw this newcomer as both a threat to his relationship with her, and potentially to the village. Yet still, their friendship would continue on.
Within a few years, a new darkness was on the rise. And this time the forest would be targeted. Vile monsters began to assault the Great Deku Tree, leaving Saria's newfound friend to venture fourth to slay the beast whom had cursed their great protector. Sadly, this resulted in the tree's eventual demise, but her friend would venture fourth to right the evils nonetheless; leaving Saria to fend for herself. Weeks, perhaps months passed, until she saw her dearest friend. But she had grown in her mysterious powers. For she had a gift to give. She gave the hero his first Ocarina. But not just any instrument. For this one had been blessed by forest magics capable of communing with her across long distances as well as summoning the power of fairies and beyond. Again, she would bid farewell to her friend. But this time, she would loose sight of him for nearly seven years.
As she waited however, Saria was met with a dark attacker. Kokiri Forest, without the help of the Great Deku Tree soon fell under siege. And without a standing army, would quickly fall into disarray. Saria fled into the forest, only to meet her captor. She was imprisoned into the nearby sacred Forest Temple as a trap for the hero. Eventually he would come to rescue the forest and save Saria, however she was mortally wounded and succumbed to her injuries. While her corporeal existence ceased, Saria's spirit lived on as an awakened sage~ whom would become instrumental in stopping the calamity later on.
